The northern part of the island gives witness to all the power and beauty of nature, which from the limestone cliffs of Capo Caccia to the granite outcrops of Gallura was shaped over thousands of years by the wind and waves.

Undisputed queen of the western coast is the beautiful small town of Alghero: this is a fortified town strongly influenced by its Catalan heritage, facing the sea over its fortified bastions, which today enclose a lively, welcoming historic centre. All around, the Riviera del Corallo alternates long white beaches with spectacular rocky promontories dropping sheer into the sea.

Driving south of Alghero on the scenic coastal road you will reach picturesque Bosa, whose colourful historic centre stretches along the banks of the River Temo.

The northern coast hosts the wide Gulf of Asinara, which embraces the stretch of sea from Asinara island to Capo Testa. Don’t miss an excursion to the Asinara island, with its white donkeys, a day on the beautiful beach of La Pelosa and a visit to Castelsardo, a romantic small fortified town with a charming historic centre.

Gallura has a landscape of granite mountains clothed in cork tree woods which from the heights of Monte Limbara drop gently down to the sea creating an ever-changing coastline. Symbols of this area are the Costa Smeralda and the Archipelago of La Maddalena, natural havens surrounded by turquoise seas. Scattered in the natural landscape are small towns with rich history, small churches perched on the rocks and important archaeological sites.
